Police Investigating after 16-year-old found shot to death

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM)- Columbus Police are investigating a shooting that has left a 16-year-old girl dead. It happened on Wellborn Drive. The 16-year-old was pronounced dead at 9:40 pm.

Neighbors say the young woman was visiting her 18-year-old boyfriend when she was shot in the chest with a shotgun.

Columbus Police tell News Leader 9 that they are currently interviewing people in connection with case.

Program helps veterans get their lives back on track

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM)- A veteran suffering from PTSD or any mental illness, sometimes self-medicates with drugs and alcohol, but this behavior can land them in jail. Now, a local program called New Horizons is offering them help.

Like so many others, Kimberly Perkins' father has served in the military, sacrificing his life for our freedom.  Following in his footsteps, she joined the military and now she is devoting her life to helping veterans.

Business robbed of 100 hats overnight

COLUMBUS, GA - A local business was robbed of 100 hats over Tuesday night.

Police were sent out to Clothes, Fashion, and Games on Henry Ave. to check on an alarm early Wednesday morning.

Prisoner walks off work detail, helicopters and dogs called in to search

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM)- Muscogee County Prison Warden Dwight Hamrick confirmed to Newsleader 9 that a prisoner walked off a work detail today. Helicopters and K-9 units have been called in to help with the search.

Darrian Williams is a black male, 5'7", 170 lbs and is from the Atlanta area. He was serving time for impersonating an officer and giving false testimony.

His release date was set at March 27, 2016.

Suspect accused of killing girlfriend held without bond

The 18-year-old accused of killing his girlfriend with a shotgun over the weekend in Columbus appeared in court for the first time Tuesday.  Benjamin Brantley, claims the shooting was an accident, but investigators are saying otherwise.

Brantley allegedly told police he was fiddling with a sawed-off shotgun Saturday night when it accidentally went off and shot his 16-year-old girlfriend Kayla Castro in the chest.

Aflac agrees to pay former employee nearly $17,000 in FMLA lawsuit

COLUMBUS, GA – Columbus-based American Family Life Assurance Co., known as Aflac, has agreed to pay a former employee $16,882 after an investigation by the U.S. Department of Labor's Wage and Hour Division found that the company violated the Family and Medical Leave Act by terminating an employee who took intermittent leave for a serious health condition.
