Northside High student asks Betty White to prom

COLUMBUS, GA - NHS student Orin Lincoln is looking to take a special senior to prom. He's asked celebrity Betty White to attend the event with him.

Orin asked White to be his date by composing an original song and posting it to YouTube with the hope that she'll see it.

Muscogee Co. prison reveals allegations of misconduct, mistreatment

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM)- The Muscogee County Prison is revealing allegations of misconduct, sexual relationships and mistreatment of inmates. 

Columbus Mayor Teresa Tomlinson requested the investigation. 

She claimed prisoners and staff were being managed through intimidation and fear. 

Warden Dwight Hamrick took over in September and says morale has improved.

Columbus rallies together to fight Sickle Cell Disease

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM)- Columbus State's University Hall overflowed with music and spoken word on Sunday night - all for a good cause, to help fight sickle cell disease.

City Councilman "Pop" Barnes was in attendance. He says he see the affect this disease can have on a person. "I know how devastating sickle cell can be. It's devastating and it's no cure."

Powerball jackpot bumped from $310M to $325M

As a result of brisk ticket sales, lottery officials announced today that the Powerball jackpot has been raised from $310 million to $325 million for Saturday's drawing.

This is the largest Powerball jackpot since Georgia began selling game tickets in 2010. The jackpot's approximately $202.9 million cash option is the highest in Powerball history.

With the new Powerball enhancements implemented in mid-January, the game has been redesigned to generate bigger jackpots and more millionaires.

Road work schedule on I-185 next week

HARRIS COUNTY, GA - Look for traffic to slow down next week on I-185 as crews work on the north and southbound lanes.

The single lane closure is scheduled for 9:00 am to 4:00 pm from Monday, Feb. 13 through Thursday, Feb. 16 between mile markers 14 and 34.

Mercer University bringing medical school to Columbus

COLUMBUS, GA - Mercer University announced today that it is partnering with The Medical Center and St. Francis Hospital to establish a Columbus campus for its School of Medicine.

Columbus joins Macon, where the school was established in 1982 to prepare physicians for rural and medically underserved areas of Georgia, and Savannah in hosting campuses for the medical school, which currently enrolls 400 M.D. students.
