Law enforcement asks city for new crime reporting system

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM)- The Muscogee County Sheriff, Columbus Police Chief and Muscogee County Marshal presented Columbus council with a new crime reporting system. They hope council will commit to $2.5 million in the mid-year budget for the system. 

Chief Ricky Boren said this is a system they have, "Tried to put in place for 30 years and the stumbling block has always been money."

Snakes Prepare for a Busy February

COLUMBUS, GA - The Columbus Cottonmouths are preparing for a busy February, with four home games and several promotions both on and off the ice.

This Friday, Feb. 3, jerseys will be given away, courtesy of PTAP, to the first fans through the gates, while supplies last (minimum 1200). The 1st-place Augusta RiverHawks face the 2nd-place Snakes at 7:30 pm. Gates open at 6:30, and fans are encouraged to purchase tickets in advance and arrive early. 

City postpones stump grinder decision

COLUMBUS, GA - For the third time, Columbus City Council has put on hold the decision to purchase a stump grinder.  

It was postponed until Feb 14.  

The city spent $60,000 last year on farming out stump grinding to another company. That is why city manager Isaiah Hughley wants to purchase one for the city.

Youth Orchestra looking for "Maestro for a Moment"

COLUMBUS, GA - A doctor, a lawyer, and an … well, no Indian chief, but how about a Kissin’ DJ? Dr. Joseph Zanga, Charles Day and Bear O’Brian are ready to battle for votes to become the 2012 Maestro for a Moment.

The fun will begin at the Youth Orchestra of Greater Columbus (YOGC) Pops Concert and Luncheon at the Convention and Trade Center. On February 5 at 12:30 p.m. each of the Maestro candidates will take the stage to tell jokes, sing, dance, beg—whatever it takes to win the audience’s votes.

61 year-old pizza deliveryman robbed and pistol whipped

COLUMBUS, GA - A 61 year-old man was robbed at gunpoint and pistol whipped while trying to deliver a pizza on Jan. 22.

The Papa John's employee told police he was driving to 2948 Peyton Dr. to deliver a pizza and was held up by two men with a revolver. The house turned out to be completely vacant.
