COLUMBUS, GA - The Columbus Museum Gift Shop will host Columbus State University (CSU) Professor Emeritus, Dr. Craig Lloyd, on Thursday, October 27 from 5-6 p.m. Dr. Lloyd will present a short talk before signing copies of his book, Eugene Bullard: Black Expatriate in Jazz-Age Paris. This event is free and open to the public.

Dickens Carolers of Columbus starting their season November 20

Volunteers working to collect 15,400 gifts for needy kids this Christmas

PHENIX CITY, AL - While many Phenix City families are busy with holiday activities, a group of local volunteers is focused on filling empty shoe boxes with school supplies, toys, hygiene items and notes of encouragement for needy kids overseas. Phenix City families are participating in the world’s largest Christmas project of its kind—Operation Christmas Child—an effort that has hand-delivered 86 million gifts to kids worldwide since 1993.

Infantry coin prototype to be introduced at Doughboy Classic

FORT BENNING, GA - When the Silver Wings jump into Doughboy Stadium at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 27, they will deliver not only the game ball, but also an official test strike of the 2012 Infantry Soldier Silver Dollar. The one-of-a-kind prototype of this commemorative coin will be used for the coin toss in the second Doughboy classic, pitting the Fort Benning Doughboys against the CSU Cougars. The game starts at 7:00 p.m.

Man beaten with bat and robbed

COLUMBUS, GA - There was an armed robbery at 12:01 am Tuesday morning on Gardiner Dr. Three black men approached the victim outside of his girlfriend's house. One of the men asked to use his cell phone and he let the suspect make a call. When the suspect returned the cell phone, one of the other men hit the victim twice in the chest with a baseball bat. They took the victim's wallet with $400.00 cash, his social security card, and Georgia ID. The man was taken to St. Francis where police made contact with him.

St. Francis Hospital to break ground on expansion projects

COLUMBUS, GA - St. Francis Hospital will host the groundbreaking of the hospital’s $110 million renovation and construction projects at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, October 25. Construction of two new four-story towers will add more than 375,000 square feet to the hospital’s main campus.

“The community will be the primary beneficiary of this expansion. We’ll be able to expedite the care of heart patients coming to St. Francis and offer all patients more private rooms for their comfort and to help accelerate their recovery. Patients will have shorter wait times in our ER once this project and renovation of our main facility is complete,” says President and CEO Robert Granger.
