Expert burglars bypass alarms, steal silver from Green Island Hills neighborhood

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM)- Columbus police are on the trail of a burglar who has stolen more than $100,000 worth of silver from homes in the Green Island Hills neighborhood.

Each time, the thieves use advanced tactics to defeat activated home security systems and alarms.

"Obviously they weren't amateurs; they didn't appear to be amateurs," said Robert Poydasheff.

Club Cream manager and friend arrested for violating fire safety rules

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM)- Sacorey McKelvey, 21 and Bolivar Glenn, 38, were initially arrested Monday following Sunday's shooting at the 10th Avenue club.

Shots rang out after police officers and firefighters bombarded the place trying to clear the overcrowded establishment.

(WTVM)- The Muscogee County School District wants to keep an open line of communication with the community.

That's why it's holding forums to hear your voice, which stands for Value Opinions Involvement and Concerns in Education.

The community voice forum is next Tuesday, May 7 at 6 p.m. at Downtown Elementary Magnet Academy.

The goal is to raise awareness, dispel rumors, address concerns, answer questions and receive suggestions.

There is no agenda for the meeting except giving you a voice in your child's education.

parents know how to properly secure a child in a car seat.

Car accident injuries are
the leading cause of death among children in the United States.

Child safety seats reduce the
risk of death in cars by 71 percent for infants and by 54 percent for toddlers

MCSD scores low on CCRPI

MUSCOGEE COUNTY, GA (WTVM)- The Muscogee County School
District scored lower than desired in the latest college and career ready
performance index.

Elementary, middle and
high schools all earned the equivalent of a "C" with  elementary and middle schools scoring under
71.

All three were below state
average.

The CCRPI replaces the
adequate yearly progress measurement.

The new system factors in
student performance on standardized tests, progress on those tests and closing
the achievement gap.

Man accused of killing CSU students to plead guilty

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM)- The man accused of killing
two CSU students is scheduled to plead guilty this week.

Muscogee County Court clerks
tell News Leader 9 Michael Registe could enter the plea in court on Friday.

He is accused of killing Randy
Newton Jr. and Bryan Kilgore in 2007.

His case went all the way
to the state supreme court, but no ruling was issued.

Concerned parents speak out at Muscogee Co. School Board public forum

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM)- One after another, parents sounded off to Muscogee County School Board members and administrators - mostly to talk about the school closings. Other issues brought up were the superintendent search, possible teacher layoffs, and employee contracts.

It wasn't just parents who spoke out Tuesday night. Savannah Connaway, 9, who attends Edgewood, walked in to meeting poster in hand supporting efforts to keep her school open.
