Pets of the Day: May 7

Tag #368

(WTVM)- Six of the pets we showcased from Columbus Animal Care and Control last week were adopted or rescued by outside groups. One dog and one cat are still available, and their rescue is urgent.

However, Animal Control has vastly improved their euthanasia rate from 80% in 2010 to 32% for the first quarter of 2013.

"Our goal is to reach the point that no adoptable animal is ever put down in Muscogee County," said Mayor Teresa Tomlinson. "Every adoptable animal needs a chance to find a forever home."

Here is a look at today's pets that need your help.

Car vandalism runs rampant overnight

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM)- Imagine if you left your
home to head to school or work this morning, and when you returned there was spray paint all over
your car.

That is what happened to
an entire Columbus neighborhood Monday night. The clean up continued through Tuesday
and police are looking for their suspect.

It all started overnight
in the area of Waverly and Peabody Avenue in Columbus.

It appears dozens fell
victim -- and we spoke with one of them who spent his entire morning cleaning
paint off of his car.

15-month-old boy killed in Columbus car crash

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM)- A 15-month-old boy is dead following a single car accident in Columbus.

Princeton Sagoe was pronounced dead Friday night at Egleston Children's Hospital in Atlanta just after midnight.

The accident happened at Warm Springs Road and Flat Rock Road in northeast Columbus.

The baby's mother told police she became distracted when she realized her son escaped from his car seat and was standing up behind her.

As she was scolding the child in the rear view mirror, she began to drift out of her lane and nearly hit another car head-on.
