The 18th annual Arts on the River! | Arts & Culture
On Oct. 19, Uptown Columbus is hosting the 18th annual Arts on the River!
About Arts on the River: Arts on the River began in 1996 as a continuation of a fall festival that began in the early 1980's in the Wynnton shopping area, then moved to Main St. Village. After two years as part of the now defunt Uptown Ham, it became an event on it's own with an emphasis on the cultural arts available in Columbus. In 2008, the show moved to the 1100 block of Broadway in UpTown, the revitatlized "downtown" that is now the heart of the night life scene and several trendy boutiques.
Public art is just now gaining a foothold in the area, and efforts are being made to increase its presence, especially by UpTown Columbus, the organization responsible for the promotion and maintenance of the UpTown area. Columbus State University also has a huge presence in the area, having moved its art and theater facilities, which includes student dorms, to what is now the RiverPark Campus. The art show competition and sale is fine arts only, and artists from far and wide are welcome.
The event lasts from 11 a.m. - 5 p.m and will be held in the median of 110 block of Broadway, just two blocks from the Chattahoochee.
Admission is free to the public.
