Opelika man arrested in Columbus with homemade explosives, guns | Crime
COLUMBUS, GA - An Opelika man was arrested in Columbus late Wednesday while armed with several explosive devices and guns.
John Mullen, age 42, was driving in a '99 Dodge Dakota pick-up truck.
Mullen was arrested on the corner of 12th Ave. and 49th St. at 9:30 p.m.
Officers found four CO2 cartidges with fuses, one hand grenade, one glock 22 .40 caliber with TLR-2 mounted light, one sig sauer sig 556 5.56 w/ ACOG sight, one Charter Arm Off Duty .38 special, one Beretta 21A .22 LR w/ suppressor, one Harrington and Richardson Topper Jr. Modle 88 410 GA Shotgun with suppressor, and one Ingram M10A1 9mm/45 ACP “MAC-10.”
The suspect was charged with five counts of possessing a destructive device.
The homemade explosive devices and the hand grenade were seized by a bomb disposal technician. They were dismantled and are no longer dangerous.
