Local dry cleaning business goes greener with Autogas-powered service vehicles

Sun Ray Dry Cleaners, the Columbus and Ft. Benning, area dry cleaning chain, has converted two GMC Savanna service vans to run on clean, American-made propane autogas.

The company has already been known for investing in more eco-friendly dry cleaning methods. Now, Sun Ray is the first dry cleaners locally to operate autogas vehicles. The new autogas vans will not only reduce greenhouse gas emissions and harmful pollutants, they will help reduce the fleet’s fuel costs as well.

As part of National Drinking Water Week, the Columbus Water Works will be hosting an open house on Saturday, May 11, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.  There will be educational displays, refreshments, and fun for the children. 

The open house will take place at the North columbus Water Resources Facility located at 5301 River Road.

Georgia counties named natural disaster areas for drought

COLUMBUS, GA - Drought in Georgia has gotten so bad that several counties in Georgia have been named natural disaster areas.

Secretary of Agriculture Thomas J. Vilsack has announced that all 29 counties within the Second Congressional District of Georgia have been named primary or contiguous to natural disaster areas due to a recent drought. In accordance with the designation, farm operators in primary counties and contiguous counties are now eligible to be considered for certain assistance from the Farm Service Agency (FSA) for the next eight months.
