Catch Hunger Games at Screen on the Green

COLUMBUS, GA - The Young Professionals are not going to let the rain put a damper on their plans. After having to postpone the original event, Screen on the Green will take place Tuesday, Oct. 2.

Columbus will celebrate summer’s end with a movie under the stars at the 3rd annual Uptown Screen on the Green. A free, open to the public event presented by the Greater Columbus Georgia Young Professionals (YP), a program of the Greater Columbus Georgia Chamber of Commerce committed to shaping the future of Columbus through community involvement.

Uptown Screen on the Green, sponsored by Carmike Cinemas, will be held on the lawn behind Columbus State University’s RiverPark Campus. Those planning to attend are encouraged to grab a picnic basket (or purchase food and beverages from one of the many vendors), a blanket and a few friends and head to Uptown for a movie and music under a starlit sky. Because we have seen an influx of rain in the Columbus Region, moviegoers are encouraged to bring “tailgate” chairs, tarps, towels, etc. to sit on during the event.

The fun and festivities begin at 6 p.m. as Columbus’ own Black Eye Blonde will take the stage with a pre-movie concert.

As the sun sets and the music winds down moviegoers will want to grab a spot on the green in front of the 72-foot full size outdoor movie screen to watch the summer blockbuster hit Hunger Games. All ages are welcome however, the movie rating is PG13, parents and guardians should use their discretion.

Moviegoers will be treated to more than just awesome entertainment for free; there will also be free popcorn, t-shirts (for the first 200 guests that arrive) and other giveaways. Spinning off of the movie title, Hunger Games, attendees are encouraged to bring canned food items to the event, for every canned food item provided, the attendees name will be entered to win an annual movie pass from Carmike Cinemas, the drawing will take place prior to the movie and the winner must be present to receive the prize.

It is through these types of community events along with seminars, workshops and public service that YP fosters an environment that attracts and retains young talent in the community.
