Witness speaks out about downtown stabbing | News
COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM)- Maurice Edwards' routine trip home from his favorite downtown Columbus restaurant took a surprising turn when he witnessed two people attack a Columbus man with a knife in the middle of rush hour traffic on Thursday afternoon.
"I screamed at them, threw my car in park, ran towards them and they weren't afraid of my approach," Edwards said.
He said he immediately rushed to the victim, 22-year-old Lashun McGee. According to Edwards, it appeared he had been stabbed at least 10 times.
"He was going into shock and kept saying call my girlfriend, call my girlfriend and at that point they slammed the doors, EMS grabbed him and began to administer their necessary treatment towards him," Edwards said.
Edwards said the two suspects, a man and a woman, got away in a Chevy SUV. Police have since arrested 18-year-old Zachery Holden and charged him with aggravated assault.
McGee is still in the Medical Center and is now in satisfactory condition. Maurice Edwards said he will be praying for the young man's speedy recovery. He said he decided to jump out of his car to help the man because it could possibly happen to anyone.
