Mother responds after D.A. clears son in year-old bank robbery | News
COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM)-
It was a little over a month ago when Tony Carr's mother Michael Love pleaded for the District Attorney's office to proclaim her son's innocence. Now she has gotten that wish.
Friday, District Attorney Julia Slater Released a statement saying, "After careful investigation, I find nothing to indicate that Tony Carr was involved in the robbery of MEA Federal Credit Union."
News Leader 9 spoke with Michael Love over the phone today and she was not satisfied with the D.A.'s statement saying the clearing of her son's name was prompted his case was brought up in a recent debate between Julia Slater and her challenger Mark Post. Love says she immediately got in touch with the D.A.
"I called her the day before and fussed with her and told her if you don't clear my son's name, then I am coming back to Columbus, Georgia and I am going to ask everybody to vote you out," Michael Love said.
Love says that a simple statement is not enough and told us over the phone that she wants to see the officer who killed her son brought to justice.
We sat down with NAACP President Nathaniel Sanderson, who met with Michael Love and held a vigil last month in honor of Tony Carr. Sanderson says while the statement clears Tony Carr, the family deserves an explanation of the case.
"This is a young man that lost his life and I think he deserves more than a Friday afternoon press release,' Sanderson said.
A statement from the Mayor's office came late this evening on behalf of Mayor Tomlinson and Columbus Police Chief Ricky Boren that said, "We are satisfied with this finding and glad that this aspect of the investigation and prosecutorial review of the credit union robbery has been concluded."
But still Tony Carr's mother says her pain cannot be healed, and she isn't stopping until justice is served.
"She hasn't did nothing to me to impress me about clearing his name because you as the press knew he was innocent as well as GBI who told me your son has been cleared and he is innocent," Love said.
