CSU Alumni Association seeks award nominations | News
From CSU's Office of University Relations
Columbus State University’s Alumni Association is seeking nominations for its most prestigious awards, honoring two former presidents.
Thursday, Jan. 31 is the deadline for nominations for both the Frank D. Brown Achievement and Leadership Excellence Award and the Thomas Y. Whitley Distinguished Alumnus Award.
“These awards are so important in terms of recognizing the caliber of support for Columbus State,” said Jennifer Joyner, director of alumni relations. “We’re grateful for all the backing we get from our alumni, as well as folks who never attended a class here. This is a way for us to recognize those efforts.”
The CSU Alumni Association established the Frank D. Brown Achievement and Leadership Excellence Award honoring CSU’s third president in 2008, the year he retired, to recognize an individual or organization that exemplifies his leadership skills and ideals.
Eligible to receive the award are active or retired staff or faculty, anyone who attended Columbus College or Columbus State University but did not receive a degree, or a CSU supporter or supporting organization that’s made extraordinary contributions to educational excellence at Columbus State or whose achievement has brought honor and distinction to the university.
The Thomas Y. Whitley Distinguished Alumnus Award, named after CSU's founding president, is presented each year to the CSU or Columbus College degree-holder who has most lived up to the high standards set by the award's namesake, who died in 2001. Approved in 1980 by CSU's alumni board, this prestigious award is given annually to a CSU graduate.
Both awards are presented only when extraordinary achievement or service merits them. The awards will be presented this year at CSU’s annual President’s Recognition Dinner on Thursday, April 18, 2013 in the Cunningham Center.
Criteria for each award and nomination information can be found at http://ColumbusState.edu/alumni. Deadline for both awards is 5 p.m. (Eastern), Thursday, Jan. 31, 2013. Questions and requests for additional information should be directed to the Alumni Office at 706-507-8956.
