Tide of attention over Phenix City native Miss Alabama USA | News
COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM)- Social media was all atwitter Monday night after the BCS National Championship Game, but it wasn't just Alabama's victory over Notre Dame that was trending.
A lot of the buzz centered on Katherine Webb, Miss Alabama USA 2012 and girlfriend of Bama quarterback AJ McCarron.
You've probably heard by now how Webb made a brief appearance on camera while Alabama led Notre Dame 14-0 with 4:22 left in the first quarter, leading to ESPN commentator Brent Musburger's commentary on her beauty.
Thanks to a twitterpated Musberger and the power of the retweet, she's became a social media sensation overnight.
What you may not know, however, is that Webb is also from our neighborhood.
Webb, 23, attended middle school and high school in Columbus and graduated from Northside High School in 2007. She then moved to Phenix City so she could compete in the Miss Alabama USA pageant.
Webb attended Auburn University and graduated in May 2011 with a bachelor's degree in business management and administration.
Since Monday night, Webb has landed more than 225,000 additional Twitter followers and shot to the top of Google trends.
She's been the subject of many a tweet over the past 24 hours, receiving shout-outs from Donald Trump, Aubie the Tiger and even News Leader 9's Jason Dennis.
Only time will tell what will become of Webb's new-found popularity, but one thing is certain: this local girl from the Valley has the nation singing Sweet Home Alabama.
