High school graduation ceremonies will stream live on WTVM.com

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM)- High school graduation is a highly anticipated milestone for high school seniors and their supporters.

WTVM, in an effort to improve communications outreach and to keep families and the community connected and informed, including family members and supporters who may be in the military and deployed, the Muscogee County School District (MCSD) and its Be There, parent/community involvement partner, invited you to watch the high school graduation ceremonies live online.

CPD presents DARE to be Great summer camp

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM)- The Columbus Police Department is proud to present their upcoming
"DARE to be Great" summer camp.

The camp will take place at Fort Middle School from June 5 –
27, 2013.  D.A.R.E. Camp is for all prior
D.A.R.E. students who will be attending the 6th grade in the
2013-2014 school year.

An information meeting for parents will be held at Fort
Middle School on June 3 at 6 p.m.

Columbus Animal Care & Control Center receives $58,250 PetSmart grant

After
falling just short of a major PetSmart Charities, Inc. grant earlier this year,
the organization invited Columbus, Georgia's Animal Care and Control Center
(ACCC) to apply for a second $58,250 grant which was awarded last week.

"PetSmart
Charities was impressed with our Save A Pet program and the dramatic positive
results we have seen since implementing that program", said Drale Short,
Special Enforcement Division Director.

47 jobs to be cut at Columbus Regional

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM)- More than 40 jobs at Columbus
Regional are at risk because of sequestration.

Company officials say 1 percent
of its workforce, or 47 hospital employees, are impacted by the eliminations,
but they will be allowed to re-apply for other positions within Columbus
Regional, or be offered a severance package.

The company anticipated a
reduction in federal funding and had been looking to cut expenses over the past
15 months.

Be There: A guide to good graduation etiquette

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM)- Anticipation is growing as nearly 2,000 seniors embark on the next phase of their lives beginning this Friday.

It will be a busy few days at the Civic Center as hundreds of families and friends celebrate the Muscogee County School District's eight high school graduations. While it's a joyous occasion, it's important to also remember the rules.

We welcomed Valerie Fuller, communications director for the district, to our studios Wednesday to tell us about what we're calling graduation etiquette.

Community celebrates last graduating class at Marshall

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM)- Fighting back tears, Marshal Middle School principal Dr. Michael Forte bid farewell to his final graduating class. The students celebrated their accomplishments and their school's history through song and dance.

"We started planning for this, of course we didn't plan for this to be the last graduation," Forte said.  

Several students gave testimonials about the school's closing and how despite constant achievements they were still forced to shut down.
