Columbus Animal Control announces improvements from last year

 

COLUMBUS, GA - The Columbus, Georgia Animal Care and Control Center (ACCC) announced its animal euthanasia rate for lost, abandon, vicious, diseased or injured animals has dropped to 46% of all animals entering the shelter during January and February, 2012.

This rate is a precipitous decrease from the shelter’s prior rate of 73% for the same period of 2011, and also betters the State of Georgia’s shelter euthanasia average of 62% and the national euthanasia rate, which varies between 60% and 70%.

Both Columbus-area Epperly Tire locations will continue their Changing Oil Changing Lives event by donating 100% of the oil change proceeds to PAWS Humane. PAWS will also be conducting mobile adoptions.

COLUMBUS, GA - Cassandra has wanted to be a veterinarian since she was a young child.

At the early age of four she began an annual collection for the local Humane Society. She would collect gently used towels and blankets from friends and neighbors and bring them to the shelter.

Juvenile offenders and rescue dogs graduating from training program

HARRIS COUNTY, GA - Ten juvenile offenders and six dogs rescued by the Humane Society of Harris County will graduate from a unique 12-week program in which the youth taught the canines basic obedience skills so that the dogs may be adopted by new owners. The young men, residents of the Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice’s Muscogee Youth Development Campus (YDC) in Midland, Georgia, will demonstrate their prowess as trainers and the dogs’ new ability to sit, stay, walk on a leash, lie down, and, in some cases, perform a few tricks at the ceremony Thursday, October 20, from 11 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. at Muscogee YDC: 7700-A Chattsworth Road, Midland, GA 31820; (706)565-4391.
