CSU to honor Amos, Hartin at President’s Recognition Dinner

COLUMBUS, GA - Respected local leaders in the fields of business and health care will be honored Thursday, April 19 at Columbus State University’s 2012 President’s Recognition Dinner.

Aflac co-founder Paul S. Amos will be presented the Frank D. Brown Achievement and Leadership Excellence Award, which recognizes an individual or organization that exemplifies the leadership skills and ideals of its namesake, CSU’s retired third president. Jean M. Hartin, retired vice president of clinical services at Columbus Regional Health System, will be presented the Thomas Y. Whitley Distinguished Alumnus Award, named for CSU’s founding president.

Shaw High names new head football coach

Shaw High names new head football coach

COLUMBUS, GA - Shaw High School has selected their latest head football coach.

Coach Kyle Adkins has been named the new Head Football Coach of Shaw High School.  Adkins served as Offensive Coordinator for Shaw during the 2011-2012 season.  Prior to joining the Raider family, Adkins was an Offensive Line Coach at Howard High School in Macon, Georgia.  Adkins also served as a Quarterback Coach at Ware County High School in Waycross, GA where his team was the Class AAAA runner-up in 2007. 

Coach "O" Invitational Track Meet this weekend

PHENIX CITY, AL - High School teams from Alabama and Georgia are coming together on Saturday, March 17 for the 2012 Coach “O” Invitational Track Meet at Central High School.

The meet features men and women competitors from Barbour County, Central High School – Phenix City, Eufaula, Russell County, Shaw, Smiths Station and Spencer High schools.  It begins at 9 am.

CSU previewing math summer camp for girls

COLUMBUS, GA - The Columbus Regional Mathematics Collaborative at Columbus State University will preview its PRIME summer math camp designed for girls entering grades 6-8 from 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Saturday, March 17 at CSU's International House at University Avenue and Clearview Circle.

Girls who attend the preview will engage in hands-on mathematics activities similar to what's in store for participants in the June 25-29 PRIME Camp. (PRIME stands for Positive Reinforcement in Math Education.) Girls will also have a chance to interact with high school mentors from the collaborative’s Math CIRCLES, which is short for Community and Industry Role Models Creating Learning Experiences.

COLUMBUS, GA - The new Virginia College in Columbus will showcase its new career programs and state-of-the-art 70,000 sq.-ft. campus at its open house and ribbon cutting ceremony on Thursday, February 23.

The event, which will celebrate opportunities for Columbus-area students and employers, will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the campus located at 5601 Veterans Parkway. A ribbon cutting will take place at 4:30 p.m.
