National Safety Council, State Farm Partner to Keep Teen Drivers Safe

COLUMBUS, GA - The National Safety Council and State Farm are working together to offer free enrollment in Columbus, GA for the NSC Alive at 25® program on October 15 2011 from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.  Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death for teens. About two-thirds of fatal teen crashes involve driver error – either not knowing what to do or being distracted. The Alive at 25 program is a four-hour course – serving as an excellent complement to standard driver education programs – that is intended to help reduce teen driver crashes.

Oil changes at Epperly Tire help Young Life

COLUMBUS, GA - Epperly Tire is once again donating 100% of their oil change sales to charity. The benefit will take place on Wednesday, September 21 and all the funds will go to Young Life. The organization will be at both Epperly Tire locations from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm to educate customers on their mission and to collect donations. Epperly Tire raised about $1,300 for the Russell County Child Advocacy Center last month.

COLUMBUS, GA - The Rivercities Model A Ford Club will celebrate the anniversary of International Model A Ford Club on Saturday, September 10th.  Club members will tour the historic areas within Rivercities (Phenix City, Columbus and Ft. Benning GA.)  Historic points of interest will include Infantry Center, Ft. Benning, the Uptown and Historic Districts, and the Wynton area and Lakebottom Park of Columbus.

ATLANTA, GA - Georgia State Troopers are preparing for a busy Labor day holiday travel period across the state with traffic expected to be heavy.  The holiday period begins Friday at 6 p.m. and ends at midnight Labor Day.

Traffic crashes in Georgia during the 2010 Labor Day period claimed the lives of 14 people, according to crash statistics from the Crash Reporting Unit at the Georgia Department of Transportation.  During the 78-hour holiday period, there were 2,580 traffic crashes and 1,042 injuries also reported.
